While we can’t gather in Oshkosh, we can still share The Spirit of Aviation. EAA Spirit of Aviation Week on July 21-25 will celebrate the entire aviation community by showcasing the spectrum of flight in a virtual way. KipAero will be exhibiting virtually showcasing our Sopwith Aeroplane Kits and Gnome Rotary Engine, sharing videos of flying a Great War Sopwith and giving virtual presentations. Game Changer for Great War Enthusiasts
For the past 50 years, there hasn’t been a commercial solution available to the Great War enthusiast who dreamed of flying an authentic WW1 fighter fitted with a proper, torque-driven, castor oil-gulping rotary engine. With KipAero’s line of Sopwith aeroplane kits – 1½ Strutter, Pup, Triplane and Camel – and Classic Aero Machining Service’s new production Gnome 100hp rotary engine, the enthusiasts can now realize their dreams.
The reproduction kits, based on the original Sopwith drawings and specified materials, are available in an easy-build form (no welding required) or come pre-assembled. Estimated labor to assemble the 1½ Strutter or Triplane is approximately 2,000 man hours and 1,500 for the smaller Pup and Camel depending upon the configuration and covering material. What’s unique about this offering is that the Sopwith 1½ Strutter has a dual control option which allow others to experience and become familiar with flying an authentic rotary engine aeroplane. For someone building or about to fly such types, they will now have a much safer route, than just jumping in and flying cold turkey as those young pilots had to do 100 years ago.
